Hey, I’m Darren Paul, a Software Engineer specialising in Front End Web Development. I started my career in the VFX (Visual Effects) industry where I worked as a Pipeline TD (Technical Director) for 5 years using Python and C# languages. During that time, I worked on Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron film, Love, Death & Robots’ season 2 episode The Tall Grass, and the TV movie The Snail and the Whale, along with other rewarding projects. I’ve chosen to focus on front-end development side of web development because, it marries technology and creativity in a way that I find enriching. When it comes to my choice of front-end framework, I enjoy experimenting with the latest beta to enter the playing field and seeing what all the fuss is about for myself. Professionally, I stick with tried and tested favourites: Vue.js (Nuxt.js) and React.js (Next.js). While they each have their own strengths and weaknesses and I’m comfortable using both, I tend to prefer Vue.js (Nuxt.js) because it allows me to easily and efficiently create prototypes. I enjoy the challenge of learning new things and taking on new projects, and my interests outside of front-end development reflect this. They include photography, brewing, driving, investing, gaming, cooking and gardening. Growing your own fruit and vegetables and then preparing them in a meal is as rewarding as a happy client at the end of a project.
A hobbyist photographer, with a passion for landscapes. I found displaying my work on Instagram limiting and wanted somewhere to show higher quality work without aspect restrictions. I built an online portfolio which allowed me to display my photographs without restrictions.

Couches For Sale is a start-up online furniture store in South Africa, that sells quality affordable couches. Couches For Sale contacted me about building a WordPress site for them. I suggested we build the front-end using a lightweight front-end library such as NuxtJS and use WordPress as a headless CMS.
